SIMEULUE ATE FULAWAN DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL 2009

Click to enlargeSimeulue consists of many islands and since ancient times the canoe and the paddle have been an important form of communication. Today the paddling has taken a bit of a different form and has instead turned into popular sports and a tourism attraction.

The Regency chapter of the Indonesian paddle sports association (PODSI) has been very successful in developing world class athletes, especially in dragon boat paddling. The last three years men and women teams from Simeulue have won many victories, on both the national and international levels, all over Indonesia and in Malaysia.

On the 10th birthday of the Simeulue Regency, i.e. on the 12 of October 2009, PODSI and the Simeulue paddlers will for the first time compete with teams from all of Indonesia and neighboring countries at home on Sinabang Bay.

Time October 9 to October 12, 2009
Place The cargo harbor pier, Sinabang, Sinabang Bay (Teluk Sinabang). Walking distance from most hotels.
Participants From all over Indonesia and neighboring countries, app. 30 teams
